Marsden Rock in Black and White
£12.50
The rock square-on and centred in soft monochrome light, surf washing over wet cobbles in silver streaks as a long exposure calms the swash. Portrait format, minimal and sculptural, every band of strata readable.
Marsden Rock is a hundred-foot limestone sea stack standing just off the cliffs at Marsden, South Shields, cared for by the National Trust. Once a great arch, it split when the span collapsed in 1996, and the sea continues to carve it today. It can be reached on foot at low tide and stands fully surrounded at high water.
