Herd Groyne in Black and White

A quiet monochrome from the sand at low tide, footprints and weed across the rippled beach and the groyne's rock armour running diagonally out to the tower under heavy broken cloud. The understated take, all texture and stillness.

The Herd Groyne lighthouse at South Shields, often likened to a 1940s spaceship on stilts, was built in 1882 at the mouth of the Tyne. Painted bright red and still in service, it continues to guide ships safely into the river.
