Lindisfarne Castle Sunset
£12.50
Sunset over the mudflats at low tide, the castle in full silhouette on its crag while heavy cloud burns orange and gold above. A small fishing coble rests on the flats mid-frame, and the wet sand carries a long reflection of the last light.
Lindisfarne Castle crowns a dolerite crag on Holy Island, a 16th century fort transformed into an Edwardian holiday home by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1901. The island is reached by a causeway that floods with every tide, and its long history of saints, Vikings and border warfare makes it one of the most storied places in Northumberland.
