St Mary's Lighthouse Storm Light
£12.50
A brooding long exposure taken square-on from the causeway itself, its barnacled concrete leading straight to the island while streaked cloud drags across a slate sky and the sea flattens to mist. Bleak, elemental and minimal.
St Mary's Lighthouse stands on its small tidal island just north of Whitley Bay, reached by a causeway when the tide allows. It was completed in 1898 and kept ships safe until 1984, and remains one of the best-loved landmarks on the North East coast.
