The Tyne Bridge from the Side
£12.50
Early morning in monochrome looking down the Side, the terrace running steeply along the frame and the arch filling the upper corner with the river beneath. Portrait format, an essay in receding lines with a handful of early pedestrians.
The Tyne Bridge is the most celebrated of the crossings between Newcastle and Gateshead, opened by King George V in 1928. It was built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, the firm that went on to build Sydney Harbour Bridge, and at its opening it was the longest single-span bridge in the world.
