The Tyne Bridge in Black and White
£12.50
The same Quayside frame in monochrome, the coloured floodlighting stripped away so the picture becomes the geometry of the arch, the silver sheen of the river and the starbursts of the lamps. Timeless and slightly noir.
The Tyne Bridge is the most celebrated of the crossings between Newcastle and Gateshead, opened by King George V in 1928. It was built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, the firm that went on to build Sydney Harbour Bridge, and at its opening it was the longest single-span bridge in the world.
