The Bridges of the Tyne

A misty winter evening from the air, the Tyne Bridge carrying its full reflection while the Swing, High Level and the rest of the stack recede upriver into the murk. The Quayside terraces glow warm along the banks below.

The Quayside is the stretch of the Tyne where Newcastle and Gateshead face each other across the water, once the heart of the city's shipping trade and now its favourite place to walk, eat and watch the river. Its skyline of bridges, Baltic and the glass curve of the concert hall is the image of the modern North East.
