The Old George, shown mounted at 8x6" print (10x8" mount)

The Old George

£12.50

The pub's yard at night in monochrome, festoon bulbs and bunting strung across the whitewashed frontage above empty bench tables. Closing-time quiet in the oldest drinking yard in the city.

The Old George Inn, hidden up its cobbled yard off the Cloth Market, is Newcastle's oldest pub, dating from 1582. King Charles I is said to have drunk here while held near the city, and the chair he used is still kept inside.
