The Millennium Bridge

A still blue hour evening with the arch graded from pink through violet to cyan, the water so calm that the bridge mirrors into a complete ellipse. Starburst lamps run the quay wall with the Tyne Bridge lit green beyond.

Gateshead Millennium Bridge is the world's first and only tilting bridge, pivoting on its twin arches to let river traffic pass in a movement nicknamed the blinking eye. Opened in 2001, it links Newcastle's Quayside with Baltic on the Gateshead bank.
