Fog on the Tyne
£12.50
Thick river fog swallowing the Quayside at night, the deck lamps punching cones of light down through the murk while the far bank dissolves entirely. Black and white, mysterious and pure cinema.
The Tyne Bridge is the most celebrated of the crossings between Newcastle and Gateshead, opened by King George V in 1928. It was built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, the firm that went on to build Sydney Harbour Bridge, and at its opening it was the longest single-span bridge in the world.
