High Force in Autumn

Peak autumn in Teesdale, the gorge framed by beech and birch in full gold and copper as the Tees rushes white over the shelving rock, the fall itself bright in the distance and in full peaty spate.

High Force is one of England's mightiest waterfalls, where the whole River Tees plunges 21 metres over the Whin Sill near Middleton-in-Teesdale. After heavy rain the river also breaks over the usually dry second channel, turning one fall into two.
