Grey's Monument Lamplight Colour Pop

A long exposure at the Monument late at night, cloud smearing across the sky and a receding row of Victorian lamp standards carrying the only colour, their amber glass diminishing into the distance. Wet paving doubles the light while the column and the city stay monochrome. Portrait format.

Grey's Monument commemorates Earl Grey, the Northumberland statesman who was Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834, and was completed in 1838. The column stands 134 feet tall, and a time capsule of coins, medals and subscribers' names lies buried beneath its foundation stone.
