The Theatre Royal is a historic theatre, a Grade I listed building situated on Grey Street in Newcastle upon Tyne. It was opened on 20 February 1837 with a performance of The Merchant of Venice. Newcastle’s Theatre Royal is one of only 9 Grade I listed theatre halls in England, the city’s theatre is often regarded as the finest theatre building in the country.
